Book for December

Hey everyone! Ruth asked me to choose the book for December and I automatically thought of one of my most recent favorites, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. He's the same author as The Kite Runner, which is another fabulous book. A Thousand Splendid Suns is the amazing story of life in Afghanistan. You will be hooked by the time you finish the first chapter. Although the story is sad it helped me appreciate the freedom we enjoy as Americans (that includes you Ruthie, our temporary Brit.) Happy reading!

Loved the Kite Runner. I had thought about what this new one of his was like. I look forward to reading it. Melinda

Great choice Linds! I ordered my copy today on Amazon and it should get here before we leave for Italy. What a fun book to have for the plane ride.

Just finished the book last night! (Couldn't wait for Italy) I highly recommend it. Although, you should have a box of tissues close by throughout the read.

I really enjoyed this book as well. It really made me appreciate the rights I enjoy as a woman in the U.S. Even though I have worked with a number of women who live in similarly abusive situations, it is nice to have institutions in place to protect women (and men in some cases) and prosecute their partners when abuse has been discovered.

This was especially aparent in the scene where the two women try to leave the country by train. I was outraged at all the people that colluded with the abuser. I would like to hear other people's thoughts along these lines as well.

I read this book a few months ago, I recommendation from a co-worker. It was excellent. Good book club choice. I enjoyed learning about the culture and the ways our lives differ. I am thankful for all I have.
